Full Height Solid Body
Trakmaster's full height style caravans are immensely strong due to the nature of their construction. Trakmaster Caravans are manufactured using an insulated sandwich wall technique. Teamed with a rugged steel chassis this combination provides high rigidity, eliminating the 'accordion bellows' effect found on caravans which flex when travelling over rough terrain. Fixed roofs have some advantages: a variety of sophisticated antennas can be permanently roof mounted, interior wardrobes can be taller, windows can be larger, more overhead lockers and cupboards can be fitted, there is no set-up involved when arriving at the camp site.
Pop-top Body
Some mythology surrounds the benefits of pop-top style caravans. In reality, there is no decrease in overall weight, as the 'hole in the roof' demands additional materials for cabin strength to be maintained. The main advantages of the pop-top style are:
- a lower height profile, providing less wind resistance when towing;
- a very large windowed area, offering lots of ventilation when the roof is elevated. This makes pop-tops very suitable for warm climates, allowing breezes to be used to best advantage;
- better access on occasions where travel through wooded areas with low limbs may be difficult for full height versions.
Cross-Country (which can be either full height Caravan or pop-top)
This van is easily identified by its raked rear end, designed to add even more versatility when crossing deep ditches, washaways or creek crossings. The improved departure angle makes it less likely that the underside of the van will contact the ground when clambering out of a trough-shaped gully. With the appropriate choice of wheels, suspension and body style, a custom-designed Trakmaster Cross-Country is ideal for people needing to cross stony ridges, navigate creek beds, traverse opal field diggings, negotiate crab-hole country or, on the other hand, glide along the freeway. Because of the high departure angle this type of chassis is only suited to a limited number of layouts.
